Bev Hickman Writing Center

All student writers deserve a reader! The Bev Hickman Writing Center peer tutors are available to assist students of all abilities and levels, from standard to AP, on any type of writing – not just papers with “problems.”  The Writing Center tutors, who are seniors completing a humanities internship at CHS, are trained to assist with prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. Let a peer tutor help you brainstorm for your college application essay, draft your Social Studies paper, revise your English PBA, or polish your résumé!

The Writing Center is open from October through May, with tutors available during all lunches on A Days and after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:15-3:15.  Located in Rooms 321-322, the Writing Center usually can accommodate drop-ins, but scheduled appointments are preferred.  Reserve your tutoring session by filling in your name on the schedule sheet taped to the door of Room 321.

Note: Although tutors can assist students with the writing process, tutors cannot write assignments for students, comment on grades, or proofread papers. Tutors can, however, offer tips to help students do their own proofreading.  Overall, Writing Center tutors seek to help students become better writers through conversations about writing that involve both the tutor and the student.
