THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT AT CHS IS....
-
...for singers! Performing
a wide variety of vocal music, students in Concert
Choir and Chorale rehearse
on the A/B schedule during the school day. C.H.S. singers develop
their techniques to increase voice range, vocal tone, and ensemble
blend. Concerts are given on-and off-campus throughout the
year.
-
...for band and orchestra
instrumentalists! Ninth
grade woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists
of the Concert Band and
the tenth through twelfth grade instrumentalists of the Symphonic
Band and Symphonic
Winds perform traditional band music
from the standard repertoire. String instrumentalists
continue the C.H.S. tradition of fine orchestral playing
in the Ninth Grade Concert Orchestra and the Symphonic
Orchestra. Through rehearsals
on a semester or year-long A/B schedule, student instrumentalists
work to increase their performance technique and level
of musicianship. Performances are given at concerts on-and
off-campus throughout the year.
-
...for students interested in guitar! No
prior guitar experience is necessary to learn the basics of rock
guitar as well as blues and folk technique in Introduction
to Guitar. Students develop more advanced
techniques, including classical and jazz, in Guitar
II & III. School-owned guitars
are available for student use.
-
...for students interested in piano! Students
in Class Piano learn
the basic techniques of piano playing. No prior piano experience
is necessary. School-owned keyboards are available for
student use in class.
-
...for students interested in music theory! Students

Music Theory learn the fundamentals of
music notation, chord progression, score analysis, ear-training,
and composition. Music Theory is
highly recommended for students who plan to continue their music
studies past high school.
-
..for students interested
in music technology! Sequencing,
multi-track recording, fundamentals of computer use, and MIDI
music composition are a few of the topics explored in Introduction
to Music Technology and Music
Technology II. In a laboratory setting,
students use technology to compose, edit, arrange, perform,
and record their own music.
-
...for musically gifted and talented
students! Students
in performing ensembles may participate in the Gifted
and Talented Program. Through differentiated
instruction, these students perform music with a higher level
of difficulty than other students in the class. Solo/ensemble
performances presented during class and a concert review/research
project are part of the course requirements. .
