Course Offerings
Foundations of Music Technology:
Utilizing computers, students will compose, arrange, and record their own music.  Students will learn about the fundamentals of music, including reading rhythm notation and pitch notation on the staff.  Successful completion of this course satisfies the fine arts graduation requirement.

Class Piano 1:
In a group setting, students will acquire the basic skills necessary to play piano with both hands while reading the music.  Students will learn about the fundamentals of music, including reading rhythm notation and pitch notation on the staff.  Students will also learn music theory concepts including chords and harmonic progression. Successful completion of this course satisfies the fine arts graduation requirement.

Honors Class Piano 2/GT Class Piano 2:
Upon successful completion of the Class Piano 1 course, students have the option of continuing their studies in piano.  Students will perform music of a higher difficulty while refining their performance skills.

Guitar 1:
In a group setting, students will study music through performance on guitar.  Students will learn to play chord songs as well as single note melodies.  Students will learn about the fundamentals of music, including reading rhythm notation, pitch notation on the staff, and guitar tablature notation.  Successful completion of this course satisfies the fine arts graduation requirement.

Guitar 2:
Upon successful completion of the Guitar 1 course, students have the option of continuing their studies in guitar.  Students will perform music of a higher difficulty while refining their performance skills.  In addition, students will begin to learn and perform Barre chords.

Guitar 3:
Upon successful completion of the Guitar 2 course, students have the option of continuing their studies in guitar.  Students will perform classical guitar literature while learning performance techniques specific to classical guitar.

Music Theory:
Students learn the inner workings of music as they study music notation on the staff, ear training, keyboard training, harmony, and analysis.  Successful completion of this course satisfies the fine arts graduation requirement.

AP Music Theory:
Concentrating instruction to match college level expectations, students will study the fundamentals of music, ear training, keyboard training, harmony, and analysis on a higher level.  Successful completion of the exam awards AP credit.  In order to register for this course, pre-approval from the instructor is required.

Concert Orchestra:
Comprised of 9th graders, students will study various performance aspects of music through ensemble playing.  Students are expected to perform at several concerts throughout the year as part of their grade.  Successful completion of this course satisfies the fine arts graduation requirement.

Honors Symphonic Orchestra:
Orchestra students in 10th-12th grades wishing to continue playing after taking Concert Orchestra can take Symphonic Orchestra.  In addition to performances throughout the year, this group represents CHS at the Baltimore County Orchestra Assessments in March.  GT Credit can also be earned.

Concert Choir:
Comprised of 9th graders, students will study various performance aspects of music through ensemble singing.  Students are expected to perform at several concerts throughout the year as part of their grade.  Successful completion of this course satisfies the fine arts graduation requirement.

Chorale:
Chorus students in 10th-12th grades wishing to continue playing after taking Concert Choir can take Chorale.  In addition to performances throughout the year, this group represents CHS at the Baltimore County Choral Assessments in March.  GT Credit can also be earned.

Concert Band:
Comprised of 9th graders, students will study various performance aspects of music through ensemble playing.  Students are expected to perform at several concerts throughout the year as part of their grade.  Successful completion of this course satisfies the fine arts graduation requirement.

Honors Symphonic Winds:
Band students in 10th-12th grades wishing to continue playing after taking Concert Band can take Symphonic Winds.  In addition to performances throughout the year, this group represents CHS at the Baltimore County Band Assessments in March.  GT Credit can also be earned.

Percussion Ensemble:
Students that took percussion in middle school can continue their studies in Percussion Ensemble.  Open only to percussionists, students learn techniques and fundamentals on all percussion instruments.  Students are expected to perform at several concerts throughout the year as part of their grade.  Successful completion of this course satisfies the fine arts graduation requirement.
