August 2018

August 3, 2018

Dear CHS Students and Parents,

I hope you have been enjoying a relaxing summer break. The CHS leadership team has been working very hard this summer to prepare for a successful 2018-19 school year. We are looking to build on the momentum generated last school year and excited to continue working together with all CHS stakeholders to make our school even better. Because of the hard work and dedication of all CHS family members, last year we received a Silver Award from US News “Best High Schools” and we were recognized as one of the Best Baltimore Area High Schools by Baltimore Business Journal. We remain in the top tier of high schools across Baltimore County with one of the highest graduations rates, rising SAT scores that show that our students are College and Career Ready, and an Advanced Placement Program that once again has participation and pass rates that exceed state and national averages. I look forward to working together with our team of talented faculty, staff, and administrators to continue our “Tradition of Excellence”.

As a result of retirements and resignations, we hired twelve teachers new to Catonsville High School and BCPS for the upcoming school year. I am happy to report that we had an extremely successful hiring season and have made an already strong faculty even stronger. As in the past, the focus at Catonsville High School will be on providing all students with quality instruction every day. I am confident that we have added some significant instructional talent to many of our departments.

This school year will bring some very exciting changes. Our new Learning Management System (Schoology) will be launched and should prove to be an invaluable instructional and communication tool for all BCPS students, parents, and teachers. In addition, all CHS students will now be issued a personal laptop for use in school and at home. We will provide more details to students and parents about the rollout and implementation of our COMETplus program as we open the school year.

Please plan accordingly for a very important date. On Thursday, September 6th we will hold our Back to School Night. Parents of freshmen students are invited to join us in the auditorium at 5:30pm for a presentation and orientation to CHS. The remainder of CHS parents are invited to join us at 6:30pm in the auditorium to begin Back to School Night. All parents will have an opportunity to meet their child’s teachers. We look forward to seeing everyone on September 6th.

I encourage you to visit for updates and important information. Please follow us on Twitter at CHSComets@CHSBeDoCreate for updates throughout the school year.

I want to once again express to all parents and students just how excited we are to continue to work hard to make CHS even better. Enjoy the remainder of your summer. We look forward to a productive 2018-19 school year.
